Part 2: Formidable Women who Inspire Us

Khanyi Dhlomo

Born Khanyisile Nokuthula Dhlomo in 17 December 1974 in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, Khanyi is the youngest and only daughter to parents Oscar and Venetia Mkhize.
The media mogul is the Managing Director of Ndalo Media, which she founded in 2007. She is also the founder of DestinyConnect and the Founding Editor of Destiny Magazine and Destiny Man.

At only the tender age of 20, and still a journalism student at WITS university; she was cast as the first black anchor for SABC1 which saw rates for the 8 o'clock news hit record heights.
Print media has always been closest to her heart, and she has always wanted to be part of the editorial side of the business. The opportunity opened for her when she was hired as the Fashion & Beauty assistant for True Love Magazine. She was mostly the errand girl and the job was not glamourous at all but that only drove her determination to learn the ropes about the media magazine business in that period.
Lady Luck was smiling upon her as once again, at only age 22, she was hired as the magazine's editor (8 years).Within a year at her leadership, True Love Magazine doubled its circulation from 70 000 to 140 000 and it became the most read women's magazine in SA.
She has 2 sons from her first marriage. After her divorce she moved to Paris and worked there as the Manager of South Africa's Tourism Board between 2002 and 2005.
Having the desire to start her own company and magazine propelled to Harvard Business School where she obtained an MBA. She met Jonathan Newhouse ( Chairman of Conde Nast International which publishes Vogue Magazine), who mentored her while at Harvad and gave her valuable insight into the media business which helped her develop the blueprint for Ndalo Media.
She founded Ndalo Media which is a joint venture with Media24 (publishers for Naspers which is Aafrica's largest media company). Through Ndalo Media, Khanyi publishes Destiny and Destiny Man magazines, which are high-end magazines targeting successful professionals.
in 2008 she took the magazine digital and launched DestinyConnect.com
